rectangualer classic design with great supporting Corinthian columns was widely criticised on completion but has been much copied. At the top of the high steeple is a gilt crown. St Martin-in-the-Fields is one of the most famous churches in London. It is open to the public at all times of the day and night. It is known for its work for the homeless, as well as its regular lunchtime and evening concerts. The Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, the New Trinity Baroque, and the London Soloists Orchestra all play in the church, which has great acoustics. A cafe and shop in the crypt help pay for the churches activities.
